Valencia fan gets six-month ban, fine for throwing battle at Barcelona

The Valencia supporter who threw a bottle at Barcelona's players as they celebrated a stoppage-time winner at Mestalla in October has been handed a six-month stadium ban and a €3,001 fine.

Spanish sport's Anti-Violence Commission distributed the punishment to the 17-year-old, who has said he regrets his actions.

"From the moment it left my hand, I realised the seriousness of my mistake," the minor said on 99.99 Valencia Radio last month.

"I completely regret it, as it isn't an act that defines me as a person, nor does it define Valencia's great fan-base."

The incident has been magnified given the fallout which has followed the scenes which marred the end of Barca's dramatic 3-2 La Liga win over Valencia.

Barcelona's players, Neymar in particularly, have been accused of provoking the anger among the home fans which led to the bottle being thrown and then feigning injuries when they were struck by the object.

La Liga president Javier Tebas and the Royal Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) Competition Committee are among those to have criticised Barca's players.

That provoked a strong response from the Catalan club, who felt the remarks from Tebas and the Competition Committee were inappropriate and took the decision to report them to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAS).

Barca even snubbed the Premios Marca earlier this week because of the decision to give Tebas a Fair Play award, and the LFP chief replied by saying he has nothing for which to apologise to the club.
