Granada striker Jose Angulo suspended over failed drug test

Granada have suspended new signing Jose Angulo until further notice after it was confirmed the Ecuador international striker failed a drug test during the Copa Libertadores.

Angulo, 21, joined the Liga club from Independiente del Valle earlier this month, signing a five-year contract.

In a statement, Granada said: "Granada CF has received official communication from the South American Football Confederation that Jose "Tin" Angulo tested positive in an anti-doping test.

"The test was done during the last Copa Libertadores, when Angulo was a player for Independiente del Valle."

Granada have told Angulo that his contract is suspended until the results of the B sample are known but said: "Our club hopes that the results of the B sample are favourable for the interests of our player."

Angulo did not feature in Granada's La Liga opener at home to Villarreal, but had been expected to play at Las Palmas on Sunday.

Angulo scored six goals for Independiente as they finished runners-up to Atletico Nacional in the Copa Libertadores.
