Bale, Ronaldo score as Real Madrid rise above Eibar; Getafe top Villarreal

Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo scored at the latter end of either half as Real Madrid overcame a testing match at Eibar to win 2-0.

Bale's header broke the deadlock towards the end of a first half which witnessed very few chances, while Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot after 82 minutes to ensure Madrid took the points and got back to normality after their thrashing at the hands of Barcelona the week before.

Madrid stay third thanks to the win and also recorded a much-needed clean sheet after shipping 10 goals in their previous three games. Bale and Ronaldo's goals were also much-needed: the Welshman had not scored for Madrid since August and this was just his third goal of the season, while Ronaldo netted for the first time in three league games.

Getafe moved clear of the Primera Division relegation zone after deservedly beating Villarreal 2-0.

Angel Lafita gave the hosts the lead midway through the first half with a powerful finish into the far corner and early in the second half the forward laid on a pass for Alvaro Vazquez to tap in to an empty net.

The Madrid side move up to 13th in the table thanks to the win, four points above the bottom three, while Villarreal slip down to sixth place and are without a win in their last three games.

Sergio Escudero volleyed home the only goal as Sevilla won 1-0 against Valencia, who had two men sent off amid reports coach Nuno had stepped down.

Sevilla, who lost 4-2 to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League in midweek, should have had more to show for their dominance than Escudera's second-half volley against the visitors, for whom Joao Cancelo and Javi Fuego were both dismissed.

And it appears Los Che's 11-year wait for victory at Sevilla will continue under a new coach as it was widely reported that Nuno had already spoken to club owner Peter Lim before the game to inform him of his resignation.

Aritz Aduriz fired a hat-trick to take his goals tally for the season to 20 in all competitions as Atletico Bilbao cruised to a 3-0 win at Rayo Vallecano.

The 34-year-old striker, who scored twice in Bilbao's 3-2 Europa League win in Augsburg on Thursday, struck within 60 seconds and converted a first-half penalty before heading his third after the interval as Bilbao secured only their second league win on the road this season.
