Argentine midfielder Jonas Gutierrez is disappointed not to have been offered a contract extension by Newcastle but is happy to return to La Liga after signing with Deportivo La Coruna.
Gutierrez, 32, spent seven seasons with Newcastle but was not presented with a new deal after his contract expired at the end of last season.
In March, he thanked fans for their support after he returned to the Magpies side after more than a year away following his battle against cancer.
"I don't think they [Newcastle] were fair with me," Gutierrez said in an interview with Marca.
"The fact that Newcastle did not offer me a new contract could have been interpreted as though I was not well.
"But I'm calm with how things have turned out."
Gutierrez, who has signed a one-year contract with Depor after a successful medical, made 96 appearances in his three seasons with Mallorca before joining Newcastle in the summer of 2008.
"I had options to play in Argentina but I always said that my wish was to play another year in Europe," he said.
"For the time being, it's just a one-year deal. But I will take it one day at a time. I don't want to think about next season, I just want to give 100 percent with this opportunity that I've been given."
Depor, coached by Victor Sanchez, finished 16th in the standings last season.
The Galician club have drawn their first two games in La Liga, 0-0 with Real Sociedad in their opener and 1-1 with Valencia at the Mestalla stadium last weekend.
Depor play at Rayo Vallecano on Sept. 14.
