La Liga shuffles fixtures in 2015-16 schedule

The first 2015-16 La Liga season Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona will be played on Nov. 22 instead of Nov. 8 while the Copa del Rey final was moved from May 21 to May 7, Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD) announced on Tuesday.

The changes were made after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) moved the Matchday 10 clash between Getafe and Barcelona to Aug. 26. La Liga requested that  the whole matchday be delayed and put back a week rather than being moved forward.

The CSD granted the request, effectively moving Matchday 10 from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, and then shuffling all the fixtures back by a week.

The CSD also confirmed the Copa del Rey final will be played on May 7, and not May 21 as originally planned by the RFEF. The first clash between Barcelona and Madrid will take place on April 10.

RFEF and La Liga have struggled to agree on dates since Spain passed a new law governing the sale of television rights to broadcast football games and the distribution of the income. The law takes effect in 2016.

La Liga president Javier Tebas sought to have the season kick off on Aug. 15 but the CSD backed RFEF's proposed start date of Aug. 22. The league, however, was successful in having the fixtures moved back by one week from the 10th week of the season. Now, Matchday 37 will be played on May 14-15 while Matchday 38 is set for May 21-22.

The date for Atletico Madrid's game against Real Madrid at the Calderon remains unchanged. But the return match was moved from Feb. 28 to March 2.

The Sevilla derby, another big match in the calendar, will move from Dec. 13 to Dec. 20 and the return match will be played on May 1.
