Telefonica buys La Liga 2015-16 rights for 600M euros

MADRID -- La Liga says it has sold domestic broadcasting rights for the 2015-16 season to telecommunications company Telefonica for €600 million.

A joint statement by both parties on Friday says the agreement covers rights broadcast TV and audio coverage of the top two divisions and Copa del Rey matches.

Spain's players union, AFE, called a strike in May over how TV revenues were collected and shared in Spanish football, but the country's National Court ruled the stoppage unlawful, allowing the season to end with Barcelona crowned league champions.
