HOUSTON -- U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann may not like his players moving to MLS from European leagues, but Mexico's Miguel Herrera would not have a problem if Giovani Dos Santos signs for L.A. Galaxy.
Multiple reports have come out in recent days stating interest from Galaxy in Villarreal's Dos Santos and Herrera does not believe that the striker's position with the national team would be weakened if he does complete a move.
"There's no reason it would affect anything," Herrera said after Wednesday's 0-0 draw against Honduras. "Teams try to sign important players as leading figures and if Galaxy has considered Gio [it is because] they think, and I think too, that they would be getting an important player."
Dos Santos' agent Vicente Montes spoke to Univision on Tuesday and confirmed both that talks are "very advanced" and that the player is interested in playing in the United States.
"It's a very strong possibility because Los Angeles have been insisting on the possibility of signing Giovani for a long time," Montes said. "He's had a very intense life in a very short amount of time and he's contemplating different perspectives."
Spanish outlet El Periodico Mediterraneo reported that the transfer fee would be €7 million and that the negotiations have intensified over recent days, while Goal USA have suggested that MLS could adopt a "core player" roster slot to smooth the passage for Dos Santos to a team that already has the maximum three Designated Players -- Steven Gerard, Omar Gonzalez and Robbie Keane.
Dos Santos came on in the 57th minute of Mexico's game on Wednesday, but didn't speak to the press afterwards.
Following last Saturday's 2-2 tie in Orlando against Costa Rica, the former Barcelona player was tight-lipped on his future, saying: "I'm a Villarreal player and I know what I'll be doing in the short-term, which is play for the national team."
