Alvaro Negredo hopeful of Valencia beating Barcelona again

Valencia's Alvaro Negredo says his team are capable of winning at Barcelona's Camp Nou for a second successive year.

La Liga leaders Barcelona host fourth-placed Valencia on Saturday afternoon, having won 21 and drawn one of their last 23 games in all competitions, and with confidence further boosted by Wednesday's 3-1 Champions League quarterfinal first leg win at Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Los Che are on their own good run, being unbeaten in their last ten La Liga outings and head into Saturday afternoon's game knowing they were victorious on their last visit to the Camp Nou -- when they shocked Barca 3-2 in February 2014, with goals from Paco Alcacer, Dani Parejo and Pablo Piatti.

On-loan from Manchester City centre-forward Negredo said in AS that his team knew it would not be easy, but their intention was to beat Barcelona for a second consecutive season.

"We know it will be difficult to win at the Camp Nou, but my teammates managed it last year," Negredo said. "Why not this year too? You must give so much, be focused for the 90 minutes. We are going to try and take the three points."

Negredo is likely to start Saturday's game on the bench, having scored just four goals in 23 appearances this season. Spain international Alcacer, 21, is now firmly established as first choice centre-forward at the top of Valencia coach Nuno's preferred 4-3-3 formation.

The season-long loan deal with City reportedly includes a clause which mandates a permanent move to the Mestalla club for Negredo next summer, although the player himself said last autumn that this €30 million transfer was dependent on Valencia qualifying for next season's Champions League.

After those comments were made, club sources told Marca that the deal would be made permanent regardless of whether the team finish in the top four or not.

Valencia have also been linked with a move for Radamel Falcao for the 2015-16 campaign, with the Colombian international unlikely to remain at Manchester United, and his agent Jorge Mendes having close links with the La Liga club's new owner Peter Lim.
