Real Madrid to appeal Cristiano Ronaldo yellow vs. Rayo Vallecano

Real Madrid will appeal the yellow card that Cristiano Ronaldo received in the game at Rayo Vallecano from referee Mario Melero Lopez, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Ronaldo's 300th Real Madrid goal was not his only dramatic contribution in Wednesday's 2-0 La Liga win as the reigning Ballon d'Or holder was harshly booked for diving in the 51st minute, and the game at the Estadio Vallecas remained scoreless past the hour mark.

Ronaldo's fifth yellow means an automatic one-match ban and that he -- along with James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos -- are suspended for Saturday's home game against Eibar pending the appeal and AS reported on Thursday that the appeal was motivated over doubts as to whether Gareth Bale would be fit to play on Saturday.

"I told the referee that everyone saw it was a penalty," Ancelotti said after the game about the challenge from Rayo defender Antonio Amaya.. "I told him it was incredible that he didn't award a penalty and that he showed Cristiano the yellow card. We will appeal."
