Neymar plays down Lionel Messi substitution incident

Barcelona star Neymar said he was not "annoyed at all" at being substituted against Eibar after teammate Lionel Messi apparently decided he would rather stay on the pitch.

With Barca already 3-0 up in the game at the Camp Nou, Luis Enrique had appeared to be set to substitute Messi, with the club preparing for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Ajax and Saturday's La Liga clasico at Real Madrid

However, the Argentina international appeared to indicate that he preferred to remain on the pitch, and the coach instead sent on youngster Munir El Haddadi in place of Neymar with 15 minutes of the game left to play.

The Brazil international, 22, told a news conference ahead of the Ajax match that he completely accepted what had happened, especially as Messi needed just one goal to equal the all-time La Liga goalscoring record.

"It wasn't annoyed at all," Neymar said. "I understand that Leo is making history and, as a fan of his, I feel at his side. This forms part of football. You cannot always be on the pitch."

Neymar, who has scored nine goals in nine domestic and European games for Barca this season, admitted to feeling happier and more settled now in his second season at the Camp Nou.

"I don't know if this is a new version, but I feel more at home, happier, and you see that on the pitch," he said. "All this is helping for my level to be better. The coach, the players -- all this, when you put it together, something good comes out. There has been no weight off my shoulders. I do not know what has changed -- maybe the understanding of the team. I am enjoying myself a lot."

Neymar's goal at Paris Saint Germain in Barca's last Champions League outing could not prevent them slipping to a 3-2 defeat, but he said he was confident the team could bounce back with three points against Ajax.

"It will be very difficult, but we always play to win," he said. "We must do well to claim the three points against a team who play very well. We know all about them, their strong and weak points."

Neymar said the imminent arrival of Luis Suarez into the attack was sure to lead to "important things" happening.

"The three of us together can do a lot of things," he said. "Leo is the best in the world, and if you add Suarez to that then we can do important things for Barca. He will come in very hard, very strong and add good things. What happened with [biting Italy defender Giorgio] Chiellini is already in the past."
