Former Valencia boss Miroslav Djukic replaces Albert Ferrer at Cordoba

Former Valencia boss Miroslav Djukic has replaced Albert Ferrer as the head coach of struggling Primera Division club Cordoba.

A club statement confirmed that the Serbian tactician, 48, will meet his new players on Tuesday morning after signing a deal running to the end of the season with the Andalusian outfit.

Djukic -- once a Yugoslavia international defender who represented Deportivo La Coruna and Tenerife -- had been out of work since leaving Valencia in December 2013.

Ferrer left his position earlier on Monday night with the club propping up the La Liga table.

The former Barcelona, Chelsea and Spain defender guided the club to promotion to the top flight for the first time in 42 years but they have failed to win any of their eight league games this term.

Arriving two days after a 2-1 home defeat to Malaga, a statement published on cordobacf.com read: "The coach has been informed of the decision during a meeting at the clubhouse.

"The club would like to thank Albert Ferrer for the work he carried out, and his name will be linked to the history of Cordoba after he achieved promotion to the Primera Division after 42 years of waiting."

Ferrer took over at the Estadio Nuevo Arcangel in February and duly steered Cordoba into seventh place in the Segunda Division. Los Califas then defeated Las Palmas in the playoff final.

A 2-0 opening day defeat at Real Madrid came as little surprise to fans but subsequent results -- including a 3-0 loss to Valencia -- caused growing concern in the southern city.
