ESPN+ announces multi-year deal to stream Copa del Rey matches

Angel Correa's late goal sees Atletico Madrid advance to the Spanish Super Cup final with a 3-2 win over Barcelona.
Steve Nicol says although Atletico got the 3-2 win over Barcelona, they shouldn't be happy with their display.
Julien Laurens doesn't hold back criticising Ernesto Valverde's coaching tactics against Atletico Madrid.

ESPN announced on Friday that it has reached a multi-year agreement with the Spanish Football Federation to stream 65 Copa del Rey matches per season on its ESPN+ platform.

The coverage, which will begin on Saturday, Jan. 11 as the competition enters the second round, will be available to stream in English and Spanish for ESPN+ subscribers in the United States and will continue on until the final on April 18.

The Copa del Rey is Spain's annual cup competition and is contested by 116 clubs in the country including the 20 teams in La Liga, with the winner earning one of the most prestigious trophies in the sport and a spot in the UEFA Europa League and the Spanish Supercopa.

"Copa del Rey is among the most storied and exciting soccer tournaments in the world, featuring electrifying players and teams," said ESPN+ executive vice president and general manager Russell Wolff in a statement.

"This agreement is a further reflection of ESPN+'s position as a must-have home for world-class soccer in the U.S. and we are thrilled to offer coverage to fans in both English and Spanish."

In addition to the Copa del Rey, ESPN+ is also home to thousands of other soccer matches including the English FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Italian Serie A, the Dutch Eredivisie, Major League Soccer, the UEFA Nations League and Germany's Bundesliga beginning in August 2020.
