Real Madrid's Nacho ignoring Gerard Pique tweet after Copa del Rey axe

Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez says he is happy to ignore Barcelona star Gerard Pique's tweet about their Copa del Rey disqualification.

Russia winger Denis Cheryshev started in last week's last-32 first-leg game at Cadiz and scored Madrid's opener, but during the match it emerged that he was suspended after having been booked three times in the competition when on loan at Villarreal last season.

The Spanish FA (RFEF) awarded the tie to Cadiz and eliminated Madrid from the competition, which prompted a mocking tweet from Pique.

Asked about the tweet at a news conference ahead of Madrid's Champions League game at home to Malmo on Tuesday, Nacho said: "Everyone can write whatever tweets they want, although I would not have done it.

"But the best thing to do is ignore it. Not give it any attention. That's the best response."

Madrid appear to be hopeful of being reinstated in the competition despite the RFEF not designating any officials for the return leg, which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday next week.

They have announced their intention to appeal, with both president Florentino Perez and coach Rafa Benitez adamant that they have done nothing wrong, and tickets for the second leg at the Bernabeu are still on sale via the club's official website.

Barca full-back Dani Alves, though, told Spanish national TV that Madrid would have to pay the price for their error.

"I don't want to poke the wound, but anyone who makes a mistake pays for it," the Brazilian said. "The rules must be applied."
