Spanish FA presidential election rescheduled for May after delay

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has rescheduled its presidential elections for May 17.

The election was scheduled for Monday, but it was postponed with Athletic Bilbao's Oscar De Marcos, the players' delegate, unable to attend because of a game against Villarreal that day.

The RFEF's longtime treasurer and acting president, Juan Luis Larrea, and former Spanish Footballers' Association president Luis Rubiales are the two candidates for the position, which has been vacant since Angel Maria Villar was forced out in December.

Larrea took over as acting chief of the Spanish FA last summer after the country's highest sporting authority banned Villar for a year following his arrest in an anti-corruption investigation.

Villar, who has been granted bail, is awaiting trial on charges of improper management, misappropriation of funds, corruption and falsifying documents.
