Spain call up Arsenal's Hector Bellerin to replace injured Sergi Roberto

Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin has been called up by Spain for the upcoming games against Colombia and Macedonia, with Barcelona's Sergi Roberto having been ruled out because of injury.

Roberto failed to recover from a groin problem that he sustained during Barcelona's final La Liga game of the season on May 21 and has been omitted from Julen Lopetegui's squad.

Bellerin, Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez, Real Sociedad's Alvaro Odriozola and Inaki Williams, and Yeray Alvarez from Athletic Bilbao are five Spain under-21 players that coach Lopetegui has promoted to the senior squad for the two games.

Spain host Colombia in an international friendly on June 7 in Murcia, before facing Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier in Skopje four days later.

Bellerin, who made 42 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal in the 2016-17 season with 35 as a starter, was recently named by Albert Celades in Spain's squad for this summer's European U21 Championship, which gets under way on June 16 and runs until June 30.

A regular Spain U21 player, Bellerin made his senior debut in a 3-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in a friendly in May 2016.

He was included in Spain's Euro 2016 squad last summer but was an unused substitute in France.

Spain begin training on Saturday in Las Rozas, Madrid, without their Real Madrid players, who will join the squad at a later date because of their involvement in the Champions League final in Cardiff on June 3.
