Angel Maria Villar re-elected to eighth term at RFEF helm

Angel Maria Villar was re-elected as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) during their general assembly on Monday.

Villar has been at the helm of the Spanish FA since 1988 and was running for an eighth successive term after failing in his bid to become UEFA president in September.

Villar was running unopposed after his only rival, Jorge Perez, did not show the necessary backing in time for the election.

Jorge Perez, who had sought to challenge Villar, his former boss, said last week that he had requested of the Spanish government's Sports Council (CSD) and its Sports Tribunal (TAD) to annul the election of the RFEF general assembly members due to irregularities in the process.

Perez had called for a new vote to take place.
