Joaquin Caparros interested in Spain job but hopes Vicente del Bosque stays

Former Granada coach Joaquin Caparros has said he would be "honoured" to manage Spain, but hopes that Vicente del Bosque will remain in charge of La Roja.

Del Bosque's future is currently in doubt following Spain's Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Italy in the round-of-16 stage on Monday.

The 65-year-old has yet to clarify his plans but is expected to leave the post, with Caparros, former Spain under-21 boss Julen Lopetegui and ex-La Roja coach Jose Antonio Camacho all having been tipped to succeed him.

Caparros, who has managed a host of Spanish clubs including Villarreal, Sevilla, Athletic Bilbao and Levante, admits he would be interested in taking charge of the national team, but would prefer to see Del Bosque stick around.

"I would love if Del Bosque continued and led the team to the World Cup in Russia," Caparros told Marca. "He's been a great servant and ambassador for Spain and I think the best thing for Spanish football would be for him to stay.

"But of course I'd be excited to manage the national team, any coach would be honoured to take this job."

Caparros is currently out of work but has, according to Marca, had several offers from Valencia, Real Betis and Oviedo.
