David De Gea starts ahead of Iker Casillas in Spain's Euro 2016 opener

David De Gea has been chosen to start in goal for Spain's opening Euro 2016 game against Czech Republic ahead of Iker Casillas.

De Gea, 25, made his first international appearance for Spain in 2014 but had to wait until Oct. 2015 to make his competitive debut in a 4-0 win against Luxembourg during qualifying for the tournament.

The Manchester United goalkeeper had been a doubt following the emergence of reports linking with him a sexual assault case, something which he has denied any involvement in.

But Spain manager Vicente del Bosque played down the selection issue ahead of the game in Toulouse, saying: "We'll see if the player is able to play, then he'll play. If he's not, we will take another decision without any problem."

The decision to start De Gea could mark the end of Casillas' 14-year long spell as Spain No. 1 after making his debut in 2000 and replacing Santiago Canizares ahead of the 2002 World Cup.

During that time Casillas has made 167 appearances and won the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.

Spain XI: De Gea, Juanfran, Ramos, Pique, Alba, Busquets, Iniesta, Fabregas, Silva, Nolito, Morata.

Czech Republic XI: Cech, Kaderabek, Sivok, Hubnik, Limbersky, Darida, Plasil, Gebre-Selassie, Krejci, Rosicky, Necid.
