Vicente Del Bosque says Spain controlled game in Netherlands defeat

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said he thought his side controlled the game despite falling to a 2-0 defeat to Netherlands on Tuesday.

Stefan de Vrij and Davy Klaassen both scored for the Dutch in the first 16 minutes and Spain could not find a response, much to the chagrin of their manager.

"It seemed impossible that we wouldn't score," Del Bosque said. "The first 20 minutes burdened us.

"We took control of the game, we were all over them, we reached their box [numerous times] but we lacked a goal.

Del Bosque gave a full debut to Malaga striker Juanmi and also brought on Sevilla winger Vitola as a substitute.

"The two debutants gave good performances," he said. "Vitolo was very lively and Juanmi looked like scoring."

Juanmi said he was pleased to break through into the side.

"The team did great in the second half. We only lacked a pinch of luck," Juanmi said.

"I'm happy about making my debut. I felt comfortable, but I'm sad about the defeat."

Defender Gerard Pique said the result of the friendly was less important than how Spain played.

"We didn't have a bad game. We paid for two early errors," Pique said.

"I don't give any importance to this result. We've lost friendlies and ended up winning titles.

"The team's attitude is positive. We've been experimenting and have to keep improving."
