Spain confirm Chelsea's Diego Costa will miss internationals through injury

Diego Costa will spend the international break with Chelsea's medical staff after it was confirmed a hamstring injury had ruled him out of Spain's upcoming internationals against Ukraine and Netherlands.

Costa limped off with a hamstring injury in the second half of Chelsea's 3-2 win at Hull on Sunday, after undergoing tests in London on Monday evening he has been withdrawn from the squad.

A statement read: "Spanish international forward, Diego Costa, left the premises of the Spanish Football Federation this morning after undergoing several tests with the medical services of the RFEF.

"The striker suffered a level 1 hamstring tear on the biceps femoris of the left thigh, which was previously already noted by the medical services of his club, whereby the medical staff at the RFEF recommend him not to take part in the national team's next matches against Ukraine and the Netherlands.

"Diego Costa will return to Chelsea FC where he will undergo the corresponding medical treatment."

The Brazil-born forward also missed games against Belarus and Germany because of a hamstring problem back in November.

Malaga striker Juanmi has already been added to the group after Costa's participation was placed in doubt.

Juanmi, who has scored seven goals in 24 games for Malaga this season, has won the European Championship twice with Spain's under-19 team but is yet to be capped at senior level.

Spain are also without Valencia forward Paco Alcacer, who recently recovered from a knee injury but is not 100 percent fit.

Spain host Ukraine in a Euro 2016 qualifier on March 27 before travelling to Netherlands for a friendly four days later.
