Fraser Forster can be one of the world's best goalkeepers - Oriol Romeu

Oriol Romeu believes that Fraser Forster could be one of the best goalkeepers in the world if he continues to play like he did in Southampton's goalless draw away to Arsenal.

Forster put in a man of the match performance, making a total of ten saves, in addition to gaining his fourth clean sheet in as many games since returning from a knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for 10 months.

Romeu, who provided excellent protection just in front of the back four alongside Victor Wanyama, was full of praise for his giant goalkeeper who stopped their North London opponents almost singlehandedly.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, the Spaniard said "If he plays every game like this, he's going to be one of the best in the world - no doubt."

He added: "Fraser has had a few very good games [since his comeback] and has showed his quality again.

"Today was more difficult because they had a lot of chances. He had more shots to save. He did all of them perfectly.

"I'm happy for him because after a long- term injury it's difficult to come back and have those feelings back. So it's good and I'm very pleased to see him back in the team."

"Fraser was everywhere. Even dangerous balls they were trying to flick over him, he was standing strong, stopping those balls and saving those balls.

"That gives you confidence. The defence was also very good. The whole team defensively was very strong in this performance. "That is what gave us the points."

With Forster making sure that nothing got past him at one end of the pitch, the former Chelsea man felt that they could have made it a second smash and grab victory in a row, after the late win at Manchester United 11 days ago, if their finishing had been a little bit sharper.

"We were alive at 0-0, maybe one counter attack," the 24-year-old said.

"We didn't create that final chance because the last pass wasn't good enough.

"If we had been more clinical in those passes maybe we could have even scored one goal.

"That's good, but we need to do that better in the next few games."
