Ronald Koeman: Swansea were lucky to beat Southampton

Southampton coach Ronald Koeman felt that "the luckiest side won" as Swansea edged a narrow 1-0 Premier League victory at St Mary's on Sunday.

The Saints wasted a host of chances before Jonjo Shelvey's netted a fine strike for the Swans seven minutes from time, with visiting captain Ashley Williams then making two goal-line clearances in quick succession.

When asked how he felt about the result, Koeman told Sky Sports: "A little but unlucky I think. We did a lot of good things. I think we played very good in the first half.

"[We had] some good chances then you have to score and if you don't score you see what happened in the second half.

"A little bit less control in the game, less domination in the game. It was a very good goal... but I think the luckiest team won today.

"They came for one point and they got three points."

Ryan Bertrand was sent of for Saints in the 89th minute for a challenge on Modou Barrow, and Koeman felt referee Michael Oliver made a mistake before suggesting the club may appeal.

"In my opinion it isn't a red card," he said. "He touched the ball. It looks like a fault, maybe maximum a yellow card but not a red card."

Koeman also revealed that he is likely to make an addition to his squad before Monday's transfer deadline, and suggested that an announcement could be made tomorrow.

"There will come at least one player," he added. "Maybe we can announce it tomorrow."
