South Korea sack Uli Stielike after defeat against Qatar

South Korea have sacked Uli Stielike as manager in the wake of Tuesday's disappointing 3-2 defeat to Qatar in World Cup Qualifying.

The German Stielike had been at the post since September 2014, when he took over for former boss Hong Myung-bo.

South Korea's best finish in a major competition under Stielike came in 2015, when they reached the Asian Cup final before falling to Australia.

However, Tuesday's loss marked the nation's third in their last five matches, a run of form the 62-year-old could not survive.

South Korea sit second in their AFC qualifying group, seven points behind leaders Iran and one point ahead of third-placed Uzbekistan with two matches left to play.
