Hlompho Kekana magic lifts Mamelodi Sundowns past Orlando Pirates

Hlompho Kekana scored from the halfway line as Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways with a 3-1 success over Orlando Pirates in their Absa Premiership clash on Wednesday night.

Kekana bagged a brace on the night but it will be his second that grabs the headlines as he spotted Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands off his line and tried an audacious effort from 60-yards.

The ball swerved as it dipped to goal, providing an embarrassing moment for Bafana Bafana keeper Sandilands as he could only bundle the ball into his own net.

Kekana had already put Sundowns ahead early on and Anthony Laffor added a late third to seal the win for Pitso Mosimane's side.

It was not without good fortune though as Marc van Heerden netted a fine free-kick for Pirates and Thabo Qalinge had one of a number of horror misses on the night for The Buccaneers.

Cape Town City moved up to third with a victory over Free State Stars as Taariq Fielies scored a controversial late winner, with Ea Lla Koto claiming he had fouled the goalkeeper in the process.

City were the better side in a scrappy game and might have won by a greater margin had they had their shooting boots on.

Champions Bidvest Wits slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Chippa United, whose revival under new coach Teboho Moloi continued.

Samuel Julies, who also netted in the weekend 1-0 Telkom Knockout win over Mamelodi Sundowns, grabbed both goals for Chippa United.

Baroka FC remain top after a 1-1 draw at AmaZulu having taken the lead through a Gift Mothupa penalty.

However, Rhulani Manzini equalised before half time and neither side could find a winner.

Finally, Platinum Stars picked up a first win of the season as they beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0 thanks to a second half strike from Vuyo Mere.
