Maritzburg United claimed a first win of the season, and in doing so inflicted a first defeat on Bloemfontein Celtic, with a 1-0 victory at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Sunday.
Maritzburg had finished fourth in the league last season and reached the Nedbank Cup final, but had started the new campaign without success before their victory at Phunya Sele Sele.
Bandile Shandu got the only goal of the game inside two minutes, and the visitors were able to hold on for an important victory that eases the pressure on coach Fadlu Davids.
Shandu collected a pass from Fortune Makaringe and was able to beat veteran Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.
Yannick Zakri then fired wide for the visitors, before Tshegofatso Mabaso grazed the crossbar for Celtic as they pressed for the equaliser.
Shandu fired wide and Andrea Fileccia saw an effort just off target, before Lorenzo Gordinho had an opportunity to secure a point for Celtic with a later header, only to put his effort just wide of the post.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United moved to within two points of leaders Orlando Pirates with an emphatic 4-0 success over newly promoted Black Leopards.
English forward James Keene opened the scoring inside two minutes with a superb diving header, his first goal since a July move from BidVest Wits and his first strike in the Absa Premiership since January.
The lead was doubled 10 minutes before the break as Aubrey Modiba netted from an Evans Rusike pass, before the latter netted his fifth goal of the season with 20 minutes remaining.
Keene grabbed his second in the closing stages to secure what was an emphatic victory for Matsatsantsa, and their biggest in the league since their 6-1 success over Orlando Pirates in November 2016.
