South Africa to meet Angola in COSAFA U-17 Cup final

South Africa defeated hosts Mauritius 2-0 in their COSAFA U-17 Cup semi final on Friday to set up a final against Angola, who demolished Namibia 7-0 in their last-four clash in Port Louis.

The Amajimbos advanced to the last four after topping Group B, and took a step closer to a record third title at this level after cruising past their islander opponents.

The outstanding Mathalosi Nare opened the scoring with a fine finish following a cagey first half, before Mauritius's Yohan Dupre made sure of South Africa's triumph with a late own goal.

Victory takes South Africa one step closer to the U-17 African Cup of Nations in Tanzania next year, with the continental championships also serving as qualifiers for the 2019 U-17 World Cup in Peru.

Sunday's final offers the regional heavyweights the chance to make amends for their final defeat in 2016 and their semi-final failure last year.

However, they'll be up against it when they meet an Angola side who thrashed 2016 winners Namibia in Friday's second semi.

Remarkably, Namibia's resistance held firm during the first half, although Osvaldo Capemba will question how he managed to miss a hatful of chances.

His fortunes changed after the break, as Capemba netted a hat-trick, with Gaspar Morais, Abdoul Barry and Zito Luvumbo also finding the net.

Namibia will meet 2017's runners-up Mauritius in Sunday's third-placed playoff, before South Africa and Angola collide in Port Louis.
