South African Premier Soccer League side Platinum Stars have completed the signing of Bafana Bafana midfielder Lehlogonolo Masalesa, luring the player back from a successful spell in Europe.

Masalesa has spent the previous six months at Greek top-flight side Larissa, who wanted to extend his stay.

But the 25-year-old has instead opted to re-join Stars, where he first emerged in the PSL before later moving to BidVest Wits and Orlando Pirates.

"We are very excited as a club to have landed his signature," Stars general manager Senzo Mazingiza told his club's website.

"It's a big signing for us. We needed to replace that situation in the midfield so we think that 'Vieira' [Masalesa], with his experience, will be able to just pluck in that position. It was not an easy signing to do.

"It took a lot of convincing and lobbying. I am glad he is coming back home. Vieira was part of our team before going to Orlando Pirates. He comes back with a lot of experience. I am sure he will do well for us.

As young as he is, he has got lots of experience, played overseas and played for Pirates one of the biggest teams in Africa. He has part of the squad that played until the finals of CAF Champions League in Cairo [in 2013]."

Mazingiza says Stars are still on the hunt for new faces ahead of the start of the PSL season.

"We are left with three players to sign. We are very close to finalising with [Kaizer Chiefs midfielder] Enocent Mkhabela. We are hopeful that we will add a goalkeeper and a striker. "We would be very competitive. You look at the calibre of our squad and the quality of players that we have signed. We are going to be competitive, not only when we play games but in training as well."
