SAFA would reject Bafana Bafana vs Senegal replay

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan says the governing body will not entertain any potential replay between Bafana Bafana and Senegal.

The World Cup qualifier back in November has come under scutiny after Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey was banned for life for "match manipulation". South Africa won the game in Polokwane 2-1, benefitting from a controversial penalty decision that Thulani Hlatshwayo put away.

In the light of Lamptey's ban, Senegal had asked FIFA to replay the match, but Jordaan says it won't happen.

"We will not accept it," he told EWN Sport. "If you must start replaying matches where referees make mistakes we will still be playing the league.

"That referee was appointed by FIFA, that is a FIFA match, it's not our match so they must deal with their referee and that is end of story. It's not our referee, we did not appoint him and we won the match."

Jordaan says referee errors are part and parcel of the game, adding: "Our position is that the referee's decision is final. Referees make so many mistakes. Maradona scored with the hand and then became world champions. So many things; Thierry Henry played the ball with his hand and scored and qualified to come here to the 2010 World Cup."

Bafana are currently level on points with World Cup qualifying Group D leaders Burkina Faso, and next face Cape Verde Islands on August 28.
