Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan will join Valencia, Club Brugge confirm

Club Brugge have confirmed that Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan will join Valencia subject to a medical.

Ryan, 23, joined Brugge from the Central Coast Mariners in 2013, and is set to sign for Primera Division club Valencia after travelling to Spain on Monday.

The Australia international was goalkeeper of the year for the past two seasons in Belgium, and was named best goalkeeper at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup as the Socceroos lifted the trophy on Jan. 31.

"If I pass my medical tests, I will indeed leave Club Brugge," Ryan told the club's official website. "It's been a joy to be at this warm, family club.

"They have done everything they could to keep me another year, which made it even harder for me to make this choice.

"Last year I hit a nice offers, but this time I just could not refuse. I am grateful for the opportunities Club gave to me -- as a young player, I could not imagine a better place to grow.

"I've had a wonderful time at the club but now it's time to take this next step. Last season I already declined a nice offer, but this time I couldn't.

"I'm very grateful that Club gave me this chance in Europe. For a young lad there's no better club to develop. I have faith that The Blues will add more silverware soon and I'm their number one fan from now on.

"And last but not least: a big thank you for the best fans of Belgium!"

"I have every confidence in the future of 'Black and Blue,' and I will keep track from the first row as a supporter. Finally, a big thank you to the best fans in Belgium!"

Club Brugge's CEO Vincent Mannaert said: "We hate to see Mat go, but we realise that this is a logical step in his career. We've tried to keep him at Club for at least one year but he had made his mind up.

"We're nevertheless very grateful for what he's done the past two seasons. He's a top player and just like Carlos Bacca he will deliver in the Primera Division.

"This goodbye doesn't change our ambitions for our next season. We're already in contact with the possible replacement of Maty."
