Sampdoria coach Walter Zenga has moved to bring an end to speculation linking Antonio Cassano with a return to the Genovese club by confirming he does not want the forward.
Cassano, 32, helped Sampdoria qualify for the Champions League in 2009-10 before a falling out with the late Riccardo Garrone, who was then the club's president, saw him ejected from the Genovese club.
The player left Parma last season due to unpaid wages and is now available on a free transfer, but his dream of returning to the Ligurian city and ending his career at Samp has been brought to an end by Zenga.
"Let's not continue with all of these illogical reports, Antonio knows what I think," calciomercato.com reports Zenga as saying after his side won a warm-up game on Monday, "For his and my own good, let's just bring an end to it, out of respect for everybody.
"I have to do my work as a coach and I have to be able to concentrate on doing the best job I possibly can, so I need to be able to do just this."
Meanwhile, Sampdoria have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fernando, who underwent a medical and signed a five-year contract with the Serie A club on Monday.
"The president Massimo Ferrero, the club Sampdoria, Walter Zenga and the team are delighted to welcome into the Blucerchiati family Fernando Lucas Martins," read a statement on the club's official website.
"The Brazilian midfielder, born on March 3, 1992, has been bought on a permanent deal and has just signed a five-year contract. The former Shakhter Donetsk player passed his medical at the Laboratorio Albaro."
