Anthony Martial set to sign five-year Manchester United deal - sources

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is set to sign a new five-year deal, sources have told ESPN FC.

United would not comment when contacted by ESPN FC about the prospect of extending the Frenchman's stay at Old Trafford but a source close to the 23-year-old's camp believe an announcement could be made before the trip to Leicester City on Sunday.

The new long-term contract would keep Martial at the club until 2024 with United holding an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

It is a victory for United, who were facing the possibility of losing the former Monaco man in the summer after he fell down the pecking order following Alexis Sanchez's arrival from Arsenal.

Martial rejected a series of offers from United but after a breakthrough in negotiations earlier in January, he is set to put pen to paper when the final details are ironed out.

Martial missed the 2-2 draw with Burnley on Tuesday night with a minor injury but there is hope he will be fit to return at the King Power Stadium.

He has made 161 appearances for United after arriving from Monaco in a £36 million deal in 2015. After missing out on a place in France's World Cup-winning squad in Russia, he has made an impressive start to the season.

He has scored 10 goals in 25 games, including one in the 3-1 FA Cup win over Arsenal last Friday, to force his way back into Didier Deschamps' plans.
