U.S. goalkeeper Zack Steffen on brink of Manchester City transfer - sources

United States international goalkeeper Zack Steffen is close to completing a move to Manchester City from Columbus Crew, sources have told ESPN FC.

Steffen, 23, is expected to cost the Premier League leaders around £7 million, with the deal set to be completed when the January window opens.

The goalkeeper would need to acquire a work permit and would be likely need a special exemption because he does not have enough U.S. caps to qualify automatically.

He could, however, be sent out on loan while City go through that process.

Steffen, who began his career with Freiberg in 2015, has seen his stock rise considerably in the past two seasons and was named 2018 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

His performances helped the Crew reach the MLS playoffs twice, and he has made six appearances for the U.S.
