Real Madrid sign son of former Barcelona, Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen

Real Madrid have signed the 16-year-old son of former Barcelona and Chelsea star Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen, who was once with Barca's La Masia academy, played more recently with Espanyol's youth sides and Iceland's under-16 team.

The forward's move to join Madrid's academy had been reported for weeks before Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen made the announcement on Monday.

"Very excited and proud to announce that I have signed with Real Madrid!" Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen wrote on Instagram. "Looking forward to the future."

Younger brother Daniel, who played for Barca's U12 side last season, is also reportedly set to move, according to Sport.

Sveinn Aron, the oldest of the three sons, was also on Barca's books earlier in his career. Last week, he joined Spezia from Breidablik Kopavogur in Iceland.

Eidur Gudjohnsen won a Champions League and a La Liga trophy when at Barcelona, part of a long career that also included a Premier League title with Chelsea and 26 goals in 88 international caps.

Eidur's father, Arnor, also had a successful career with Anderlecht and Bordeaux, among other clubs. In 1996, the family made history when Eidur, then 17, came on as substitute for Arnor, 34, during a 3-0 victory for Iceland in Estonia.
