Tottenham eye deal for Bordeaux winger Malcom - sources

LONDON -- Tottenham are interested in signing Bordeaux's Brazilian winger Malcom, sources have told ESPN FC.

The 20-year-old's representatives have held talks with both Spurs and their north London rivals Arsenal this month but the Gunners are no longer interested in a deal, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan now both targets to replace the departing Alexis Sanchez.

A source close to Spurs told ESPN FC that the club remain unlikely to add players to the squad this month but Malcolm could sign in January and join in the summer, leaving him free to help Bordeaux's Ligue 1 relegation battle for the remainder of the season.

"Maybe we need to sign players in January and bring them in six months before," Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said in December. "If not, we're going to compete in the same period as City, [Manchester] United, Liverpool and Chelsea -- and we're going to struggle to bring in the players we want."

Pochettino is a big fan of Malcom, who could cost up to €40 million up-front with a further €10m in add-ons, while the player is also reportedly attracted to the idea of working with the Argentine.

Spurs have allowed wingers Georges-Kevin N'Koudou and Marcus Edwards to leave the club on loan for Burnley and Norwich City respectively this month.
