Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred keen on Manchester City move

Brazil international Fred has indicated that he would relish the chance to join Manchester City amid links with the Premier League leaders.

Sources told ESPN FC last month that City are monitoring Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred ahead of a possible move in the summer.

Pep Guardiola had the chance to view the 24-year-old up close when City faced Shakhtar in this season's Champions League group stage, and Fred has suggested he would relish the chance to play for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, he spoke of "a great coach like Guardiola and a great team like City" and added: "For sure, I would grow a lot with them. I have a lot to grow."

The news of City's interest emerged just before Christmas and he said: "For me it was well received, even more so on Christmas Eve. Now I must continue to do my work at Shakhtar, and to be seen a lot by the whole world."

He added: "England is the most competitive league in the world, I want to play there. It could suit me well. It would be important to play in England with one of the great managers. It's a dream that I have."

He said he had yet to have any contact with the City boss but hoped that would change in the near future.

"I have not received [a call from Guardiola] yet. I'm just waiting," he said, before joking: "Go now because he will call me straight away."
