Fulham sign Chelsea centre-back Tomas Kalas on season-long loan

Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas has joined Fulham on a season-long loan, the Championship club confirmed on Thursday.

Kalas, 24, spent the whole of last season on loan at Craven Cottage, making 36 appearances as the club finished sixth and advanced to the playoffs, where they were beaten by Reading in the semifinals.

"It's a pleasure to welcome Tomas Kalas back to the Fulham Football Club," Fulham vice chairman and director of football operations Tony Khan told the club's website.

"We appreciate Tomas so much after the way that he battled for us last season, demonstrating not only tremendous skill but also great heart and determination.

"We're very excited to have him here again as one of us as we prepare for our next battle, and what we hope will be a great season."

Kalas has been at Chelsea since 2010, signing for £5.2 million from Czech club Sigma Olomouc.

The defender has spent the last six seasons out on loan, starting with a temporary return to Sigma Olomouc for the 2010-11 campaign, and then Vitesse Arnhem for two years and Cologne, Middlesbrough and Fulham in the seasons that followed.

He has earned six full caps for Czech Republic.
