Kieran Trippier signs new five-year contract with Tottenham

Kieran Trippier has signed a new five-year contact with Tottenham, committing him to the club until 2022.

The 26-year-old made just 11 Premier League starts, including six last season, since joining the club from Burnley for £3.5 million two years ago but he will be given the chance to establish himself as Spurs' first choice right-back after Kyle Walker joined Manchester City for £50m.

Trippier finished last season ahead of Walker, starting the FA Cup semifinal final defeat to Chelsea and the home matches against Arsenal and Manchester United, and he was rewarded with a first England cap against France earlier this month.

"I've always believed I could play at the highest level," Trippier told Spurs' official website. "Even when I've not been playing, I've been getting my head down in training and games, and working hard for my opportunities.

"At the back end of last season, I got my opportunities in big games and I tried to do my best. It's been a good two years."

Trippier has significantly increased his previous salary of around £35,000 per week, and he could take the No. 2 shirt for next season, after Walker signed a five-year deal at City.

Spurs still hope to sign a new right-back but club sources say they are not actively pursuing Ricardo Pereira of Porto, who has been linked with a £25m move after impressing during a two-year loan at French club Nice.
