Iker Casillas signs new one-year contract with Porto

Former Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas has ended speculation over his future by agreeing a one-year extension to his contract at Porto.

Since leaving Real Madrid in 2015, Casillas has kept 37 clean sheets in 83 games, while also setting a new all-time record of 57 Champions League clean sheets as Porto reached the knockout stages of the competition last season.

With his contract at Porto ending in June, Sevilla, Arsenal, Chelsea and Marseille, besides Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, were linked with the World Cup and two-time European Championship winner, while MLS clubs were also said to be interested.

Casillas nonetheless returned to preseason training with Porto last week, amid speculation the now 36-year-old was taking a pay-cut to remain at the Estadio do Dragao, and confirmation that a deal had been done came via Twitter.

"Very happy to be continuing another season at FC Porto," Casillas said. "Very excited about the challenges to come."
