Cologne will not sell Anthony Modeste despite China link - Jorg Schmadtke

Cologne sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has told Welt Am Sonntag the club do not plan to sell 22-goal attacker Anthony Modeste despite links with China.

Modeste, who scored a hat trick in Cologne's recent 4-2 win against Hertha Berlin, has been linked with a €50 million move to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian.

The Bundesliga's second top scorer, 28, has led the charge as Cologne look to qualify for Europe for the first time in 25 years.

"It's about the trustworthiness and the integrity of this club and its leadership. You can't set internal goals and then offload your best attacker," Schmadtke said.

Modeste, who is under contract until 2019, added: "Other clubs don't interest me right now. My family and I are happy here."

Cologne are currently sixth in the Bundesliga.
