Marco Verratti's agent clarifies 'misinterpreted' PSG comments

The agent of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has clarified his recent comments about the French champions and his doubt over their ability to win the Champions League.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday, Donato Di Campli said Verratti "wants to win things and PSG, as they are, cannot win. He has been in Paris for five years and now he needs to consider whether he wants to earn a lot without winning or earn and become a champion."

The quotes caused a stir in France, but also in Spain and Verratti's native Italy where clubs are reportedly monitoring the situation. In reaction to the controversy, Di Campli spoke again to Gazzetta dello Sport and attempted to calm the situation.

"I simply repeated what I have said before," he said. "It may have been misinterpreted in France. PSG are a big club, where Marco is under contract until 2021 with a big salary.

"The fact remains that a player of his ability, after five years in Paris, is wondering about his career prospects and hoping that PSG can win the one trophy they are missing, which is the Champions League.

"Marco has big ambitions, like PSG or any other European club."

According to L'Equipe in France, the publication Verratti is taking legal action against, Di Campli recently met with PSG chiefs and is reported to have voiced his and his player's concerns about Les Parisiens' direction.

Information from ESPN FC's Ian Holyman was used in this report.
