RB Leipzig sign Oliver Burke from Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest teenager Oliver Burke has signed a five-year contract with Bundesliga new boys RB Leipzig.

The day after scoring for Forest in a 3-1 win over Leeds, Burke was unveiled by Leipzig with the fee reported to be in the region of £13 million.

"Oliver Burke is an outstanding talent, only 19 years old, with an awful lot of potential that has not been completed," sporting director Ralf Rangnick told his club's official website.

"He fits with the high pace and way of playing very well and will make his next sporting development step with us. This transfer is important, especially because several top clubs were interested."

A product of Forest's academy -- which he joined aged 12 -- Burke made his first-team debut in September 2014 before a loan spell with Bradford in 2015.

The 19-year-old won a place in Forest's first team last season and earned a first Scotland cap -- he was born in Kirkcaldy -- against Denmark in March.

Forest manager Philippe Montanier had said after Saturday's win over Leeds that he had had reassurances that Burke would stay from owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi, adding: "It is important that he stays at Forest and I am confident that will happen."

Burke posted on Twitter to express his gratitude to Forest and said: "Having understood the club's decision to accept an offer, I quickly came to the conclusion it was time to move on and experience a new challenge."

He said Leipzig, founded in 2009, had "world class" facilities and staff and added: "Red Bull Leipzig has a desire to be one of the top clubs in Europe and I am excited to be part of that and start the next chapter in my footballing career."

Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury posted "Wish I could tweet !!!!!!!" on his Twitter account after the deal had gone through, which was retweeted by striker Britt Assombalonga, with both also retweeting a message saying it was a "real shame to see Burke leave forest."

Al-Hasawi subsequently wrote on Twitter: "I would just like to remind everybody that when we sold [Jamaal] Lascelles and [Karl] Darlow, we brought [Michail] Anotonio [sic] and Assombalonga.

"I can assure all #NFFC supporters that this money will be used and reinvested back into the squad."
