Juventus' general manager Beppe Marotta is hopeful the Italian champions will sign Blaise Matuidi from Paris Saint-Germain but said there is "zero possibility" of Real Madrid's James Rodriguez joining.
Marotta, speaking at Thursday's Champions League draw in Monaco, said France midfielder Matuidi would be an ideal signing after the departure of Paul Pogba to Manchester United.
Marotta, who met up with representatives of PSG in Monaco, told Mediaset: "We're not there yet, but he has the perfect profile and we're hoping to reach an agreement with PSG in the coming days. I'm optimistic."
Despite his comments, French newspaper L'Equipe says PSG are adamant that Matuidi will stay, with the club's chairman, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, telling reporters in Monaco that the 29-year-old "has a contract with us and he wants to stay."
Juve had also been linked with Colombia international Rodriguez, whose future at Madrid is uncertain under Zinedine Zidane.
AS reported that Italian estate agency Proto Group Ltd. released a statement saying it was working on behalf of the 25-year-old to secure the rental of a villa in Turin, but Marotta said: "There's zero possibility of him coming."
Marotta said Juve remain hopeful of signing Juan Cuadrado from Chelsea following his loan spell last season but that the Premier League side have so far proved unwilling to sell.
"We want him back here and the lad really wants to come back, but at the moment Chelsea won't let him go," he said.
Juve are set to allow Italy forward Simone Zaza to join West Ham United before the close of the transfer window.
"We've exchanged a few emails and I think we are in a position where we can wrap that up in the coming days," he said.
