Newcastle United's Moussa Sissoko not worried by £35m price tag

Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has told L'Equipe he is not worried by his £35 million price tag and hopes to secure a move "as early as possible."

France international Sissoko, 26, was unable to prevent Newcastle from getting relegated last season but his stock has risen considerably after some impressive performances at Euro 2016.

According to the Press Association, Newcastle have responded by demanding a considerable asking fee from anyone wanting to buy the player who finished last season as their captain.

Sissoko, who thanked Newcastle and their fans in a post-Euro 2016 message on social media, has said he is confident a move will go through despite the huge price on his head.

"Newcastle would ask for £35 million? It could be 20 -- for me it changes nothing," he said. "The interested clubs will know how to find common ground. I hope that it will be as early as possible."

Meanwhile, Bundesliga club Hamburg have confirmed they held talks with Sissoko's representatives prior to the European Championship.

Speaking to Bild on Tuesday, Hamburg CEO Dietmar Beiersdorfer said: "They were interested."

However, he added that Sissoko's agents were not interested in completing a deal until after the tournament, saying: "They said they wanted to wait and see what happens at the Euro."

The former Toulouse midfielder was not initially in France's starting XI but featured heavily in the knockout stages and was arguably their best player in the hosts' 1-0 defeat to Portugal in Sunday's final.

Bild reported that talks with Hamburg will not be continued as a result of his performances, and Sissoko is seeking a transfer within England, where he has been linked with a series of clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool.
