Manchester City confirm Martin Demichelis departure

Martin Demichelis' exit from Manchester City has been confirmed after three years with the club.

Sources told ESPN FC in May that the 35-year-old defender would not be offered a new deal when his contract expired on June 30.

Demichelis made 106 appearances for City after joining from Atletico Madrid in September 2013 -- winning the Premier League and two Capital One Cup winners' medal.

He has been linked with a move back to his former club River Plate in his native Argentina after revealing he almost joined the Buenos Aires side 12 months ago.

Belgium defender Jason Denayer is set to be in City's first-team squad after successful successive season-long loans at Celtic and Galatasaray while new boss Pep Guardiola is also in the market for a new centre half with Everton's John Stones a top target.
