Sadio Mane joins Liverpool from Southampton on long-term contract

Liverpool have completed the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton for an undisclosed fee.

Senegal international Mane, 24, has signed a long-term contract at Liverpool, reported to be five years, after passing a medical.

He becomes Jurgen Klopp's fourth arrival ahead of the new season, following midfielder Marko Grujic, centre-back Joel Matip and goalkeeper Loris Karius in moving to Anfield.

The fee has not been announced but Southampton said it was a club record and it is reported that he cost in the region of £30 million.

Mane, who will wear the No. 19 shirt, told Liverpool's official website: "Today is a big day and I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

"It's a club that has won a lot of trophies and has a big history. Now I am looking forward to meeting all the staff and my teammates and starting the season."

The attacker scored 11 Premier League goals for Southampton last season including an equaliser in the 1-1 draw at Anfield in October and two in a 3-2 win against Liverpool in March as the Saints secured a club best sixth-place finish.

He also broke Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler's record for the fastest hat trick in the Premier League when he netted three times in two minutes and 56 seconds against Aston Villa in May 2015.

He is the fifth player in the past three seasons to swap St Mary's for Anfield after Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne all made the same move.
