Borussia Dortmund open to Mario Gotze return from Bayern Munich

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has said the club would be keen to bring Mario Gotze back to the club if he opts to leave Bayern Munich.

Gotze, 23, left Dortmund to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich in July 2013 for a transfer fee of €37 million, but has failed to gain a regular starting berth under Pep Guardiola.

With only 12 appearances for Bayern in a season disrupted by injury, there are talks of Gotze exiting the club in the summer.

"If he's on the market, it's clear if we discuss about him," Watzke said on the AUDI-Star-Talk show.

"The door is always open for every player who comes from Dortmund."

While Dortmund are ready to give him a second chance, it remains to be seen if the fans think the same way, after they voiced they displeasure earlier this month by unfurling a banner that told Gotze to "p--- off" and not return to the club.

"If he returns we have to talk with the fans and he has to explain how he left for Bayern," Watzke added.

"But I don't think that they won't give him a second chance."

It will be an interesting summer for Dortmund as they seek to keep Mats Hummels at the club while trying to boost their attacking prowess. Should Gotze don the famous black and yellow of Dortmund again, he will hope to quickly recover his form that saw him score 22 goals in 83 appearances.
