Southampton won't sell Sadio Mane to Man United in January - source

Southampton have no plans to sell Sadio Mane to Manchester United in the January transfer window, a source close to the club has told ESPN FC.

Mane, 23, was left out of the starting line-up for last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Norwich for missing a team meeting and his future at Southampton has been the subject of speculation for some time, with United linked.

Sources have told ESPN FC that United's hierarchy made contact with Southampton to enquire about the Senegal international, but were told the player will not be sold in January.

United manager Louis van Gaal has held a long-term interest in Mane and considered making a move for the versatile attacker during last summer's transfer window.

However, Southampton have previously stated that Mane would not be sold and are sticking to that as they seek to improve a poor start to the season.
