Southampton hopeful of Virgil van Dijk transfer from Celtic - sources

Southampton are confident of securing a deal for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk before the close of the transfer window, sources have told ESPN FC.

Southampton are in advanced talks with Celtic to sign Van Dijk with manager Ronald Koeman making his fellow Dutchman one of his top targets.

The two clubs are close to agreeing a fee in the region of £11 million for Van Dijk with Celtic resigned to losing the centre-back following their failure to reach the Champions League group stages.

Everton have also been credited with an interest in Van Dijk, but Southampton have been leading the chase for the 24-year-old all summer as they look to bolster their defensive options.

Van Dijk is expected to sign a four-year deal at St Mary's with Celtic already moving to bring in Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett as his replacement at Parkhead.
