Mauricio Pochettino dismisses Javier Hernandez to Spurs rumour

Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauricio Pochettino dismissed rumours that the club are courting Manchester United striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez.

"About Javier Hernandez, those are rumours and nothing more," Pochettino said after Tottenham's 2-1 loss to the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday night in Colorado. "There is nothing concrete. He is a Manchester United player and logically a lot of names are getting suggested for Tottenham and Javier is just one more."

On Tuesday, the Mirror reported that with Hernandez set to enter the 2015-16 campaign as backup to Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford, Tottenham will attempt to entice the Mexico striker to sit on the bench behind another England forward in Harry Kane.

The paper suggested that Spurs are poised to step up their interest in Hernandez once Emmanuel Adebayor's impending loan move to Aston Villa is completed, while fellow flop Roberto Soldado is a target for Villarreal according to the Daily Mail.

The striker has recovered from a broken collarbone suffered while playing for Mexico during CONCACAF Gold Cup, although he had been previously projected to sit out United's preseason tour of the United States because of his international commitments.

The former Guadalajara player is entering the last season of his contract at Old Trafford and was loaned out to Real Madrid last season.

But although he scored nine goals in 33 games for the 2014 European champions, they opted against buying him.

Hernandez has only made two competitive appearances under current United manager Louis van Gaal. He was taken off at half-time in the 2-1 defeat in Swansea in the Dutchman's first league game in charge and played in the 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to MK Dons.

He only made nine and six league starts respectively in his two most recent seasons at United while he was expected to be surplus to requirements as Van Gaal overhauls his forward line this summer.
