Man City's Edin Dzeko to be subject of €20 million bid from Roma - sources

Roma are preparing a €20 million bid for Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, sources have told ESPN FC.

Italian giants Roma have been chasing Dzeko all summer and they have been encouraged in their pursuit of the player by Manuel Pellegrini's admission that the striker could leave City.

Dzeko did not feature in City's preseason win over Roma on Tuesday with Pellegrini admitting he was unsure if the Bosnia-Herzegovina international would remain at the club.

He said: "Edin didn't play the last game as it's not clear if he will continue here or not, but he is still working here with the whole squad."

Dzeko struggled to hold down a regular place in Pellegrini's side last season, scoring only four goals in the Premier League and the January arrival of Wilfried Bony pushed him further down the pecking order.

The summer arrival of Raheem Sterling from Liverpool has increased competition for places in City's attack and the club are willing to cash-in on Dzeko as they look to recoup some of the £49m spent on Sterling.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Dzeko, but Roma look to be in pole position to land the former Wolfsburg man.

Roma captain Francesco Totti is a big fan of Dzeko and he called on the club to bring the 29-year-old to the Stadio Olimpico as Roma look to build a side capable of winning Serie A next season.
